SOW

Statement of Work

A document defining the specific scope of assigned work, deliverables, schedule, responsibilities, assumptions, exclusions, acceptance criteria, and often the budget. It reduces misunderstandings in client-vendor relationships.

Why it matters

Clearly defines project boundaries in black and white: what’s included, what’s not, and how completion is determined. Protects both parties from scope creep without budget adjustments.

What's missing without it

Without a written scope, every disagreement becomes a negotiation: the client expects 'obvious' inclusions, the vendor expects extra fees — conflict is inevitable.

When it is used

For every project with an external vendor: scope, deliverables, deadlines, and acceptance criteria.

How we use it

A production project includes an SOW with the number of formats, rounds of revisions, deadlines, and license scope.
