GDP

Gross Domestic Product

The value of all goods and services produced within a country during a given period. Reported in real terms (adjusted for inflation) and nominal terms.

Why it matters

GDP growth rate precedes advertising budget decisions by two to three quarters. Companies cut spending when they see a slowdown, not after it has already occurred.

What's missing without it

Without tracking GDP, annual planning relies on last year’s results — which have just ended.

When it is used

When planning annual budgets, forecasting sales, or discussing advertising pricing.

How we use it

GUS publishes a quick quarterly estimate after about 45 days, full data after 60. Growth is reported year-over-year.
