NPS

Net Promoter Score

Score from a single question: 'How likely are you to recommend us to a friend?' on a 0–10 scale. Percentage of scores 9–10 minus percentage of scores 0–6.

Why it matters

One number comparable across industries and over time. The open-ended follow-up 'Why?' provides more insight than the score alone.

What's missing without it

Without regular measurement, product issues only surface in churn statistics — too late.

When it is used

After onboarding, after customer support interaction, quarterly across the entire customer base.

How we use it

60% promoters, 15% detractors → NPS 45. Scale ranges from −100 to +100.

Fun fact

The metric was published in Harvard Business Review in 2003 under the headline 'The One Number You Need to Grow.' It measures stated intent to recommend, not actual recommendations — and the gap between the two can be vast.
