PPI

Pixels Per Inch

A measure of pixel density in an image or screen. Often confused with DPI; PPI is appropriate for raster files, while DPI refers to the dots per inch of a printing device.

Why it matters

It indicates how much detail an image actually contains: pixels per inch determine whether a graphic can withstand enlargement. This is the correct metric for digital files — DPI relates to printers.

What's missing without it

Confusing PPI with DPI results in files with incorrect resolution: unnecessarily large or too small for printing.

When it is used

When preparing graphics for print and checking whether the source file can support the intended output size.

How we use it

The validator checks whether the image has sufficient pixels for the physical print format.
