Huawei has announced the winners of the global Huawei Next-Image 2020 photography competition – among the laureates are as many as four Polish photographers, who competed in the final stage among the 1,000 best participants from around the world.
One of the Polish photos was among the 15 best works selected in the categories, and the authors of the other three were among the 55 people additionally distinguished by the jury.
The main prizes, the Grand Prize of 7,700 GBP, the flagship Huawei P40 Pro smartphone, and the title of Photographer of the Year, went this year to three photographers – from Denmark, Argentina, and China.
- The high level of photos submitted to the Next-Image competition surprises us every year. Not only because of their quality, but above all the moving stories behind them. Extremely talented artists prove that mobile photography and the capabilities of Huawei smartphones are infinite. Participating in the annually organized Huawei Next-Image Awards competition is not only a chance for attractive prizes, but also an opportunity to show one's talent to a wide audience and make a name in the world of photography. This year's edition enjoyed great interest in Poland – 11 thousand enthusiasts using Huawei smartphones submitted their works to the competition. Globally, a record 1.2 million participants from 120 countries around the world took part in the competition. 1,000 best photos qualified for the final, from which the jury selected 3 works awarded the Grand Prize, 15 best photos in the categories, and granted 55 distinctions.

Among the 41 photos of Polish representatives qualified for the final stage, the international jury distinguished as many as 4 works. One of the 15 category winners is Daniel Wencel with the photo "Daughter of the Storm". The Polish photographer, in addition to international fame, also received 770 GBP and a Huawei P40 Pro smartphone.

The jury also distinguished 55 authors of works, among whom there were as many as three Poles. The Huawei P40 Pro smartphone was won by: Piotr Cebula for the photo "My Place" from the "Goodnight" category, Michał Bachora for the photograph titled "Boy, Dog, Pizza" in the "Hello, Life!" category, and Jakub Niedźwiecki for the photo "Silhouette" submitted in the "Near Far" category.

Grand Prize – the best of the best
Grand Prize for three creators
Participants of the Next-Image 2020 competition could submit their photographs in six categories: "Near Far", "Faces", "Goodnight", "Hello, Life!", "Story", and in the only videography category – "Live in the Moment". The authors of the three best photos received 7,700 GBP, a Huawei P40 Pro smartphone, and the title of Photographer of the Year.
The first of them, a Dane, in his photo titled "The Hug" from the "Hello, Life!" category, presents a moving image of a grandfather hugging his grandchildren after over 2 months of pandemic-related isolation. The second winning work, created by a photographer from Argentina, also refers to the difficult situation in the world that forces people into solitude but at the same time allows them to gain distance and enjoy small, everyday things. The collage consisting of 9 photos titled "Resilience" was submitted in the "Story" category. The last of the three winners, from China, won the Grand Prize thanks to a short, inspiring film titled "Master of the Horse and the Horses". The author submitted his film in the "Live in the Moment" category.
