Why it matters
Email servers check whether the name in the PTR record matches how the server identifies itself. A mismatch is one of the stronger spam indicators.
What's missing without it
Without a correct PTR record, email sent from your own server will be heavily filtered into spam, and some recipients may reject it outright during connection.
