Online hate is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon with a real, negative impact on our lives.
UNIQA breaks barriers with a revolutionary insurance policy.
UNIQA Polska has launched the Against Cyberbullying Foundation and introduced an innovative insurance policy for cases of online hate. These measures aim to counter hate speech and support victims of this phenomenon while promoting mental health.
A Groundbreaking Report and the #nohate Campaign
As early as June 2024, a groundbreaking report on the level of hate in the Polish internet will be published, inaugurating a social campaign called #nohate. The goal of this initiative is to draw attention to the growing problem of hate speech online and to mobilise companies, institutions, non-governmental organisations, influencers and other influential entities to take active steps to combat it.
The report will be the first of its kind in Poland to summarise manifestations of hate, including verbal aggression and online activity inciting hatred. As part of the report, thousands of Facebook pages and millions of comments were assessed to determine the level of hate in Polish social media. Such a wide-ranging analysis was made possible thanks to the use of proprietary solutions based on artificial intelligence.
The scale of the hate problem online in Poland is enormous. The report covers thousands of pages and millions of comments, suggesting that the problem affects a broad spectrum of social media users. Thanks to advanced analytical tools and artificial intelligence, it was possible to accurately map this phenomenon, identifying key areas where hate speech is most prevalent.
Online hate has real consequences for those who are its victims. It can lead to serious mental health problems, including depression, anxiety and, in extreme cases, even suicide. The negative impact of hate speech is not limited to individuals – it also affects society as a whole, contributing to polarisation and the escalation of social conflicts.
The Role of the #nohate Campaign
The #nohate campaign aims not only to raise awareness of the problem of hate speech, but also to mobilise various entities to take action. Companies, institutions, non-governmental organisations and influencers are to play a key role in combating hate by promoting positive behavioural patterns, education and implementing appropriate policies and procedures to reduce hate speech online.
Using artificial intelligence to analyse online hate is an innovative approach that allows for accurate and effective monitoring of this phenomenon. Thanks to advanced algorithms, it is possible to quickly detect offensive content and respond appropriately, which is crucial in the fight against hate speech.
As part of the initiative, UNIQA Polska launched the Against Cyberbullying Foundation, whose goal is to counter online hate and support victims of this phenomenon. The foundation implements various programmes aimed at educating society and promoting mental health. The foundation's inauguration was an opportunity to present its action programmes and launch the social campaign against hate.
Innovative Insurance
Since 2020, UNIQA has offered insurance against hate online. Initially, it was available as additional protection alongside school accident insurance (personal accident insurance). In response to the growing threats associated with new technologies, since last year this insurance has been available as a standalone product. By 2023, more than 10,000 such policies had been sold, which demonstrates strong demand for this type of protection.
Scope of Insurance
The insurance offered by UNIQA covers:
- Psychologist support: specialist assistance for victims of online hate, aimed at improving their mental health and helping them cope with trauma.
- IT expert assistance: support in removing harmful content from the internet, which is crucial in preventing the further spread of hate.
- Lawyer assistance: help in enforcing the removal of hateful content and support in taking legal action against perpetrators of cyberbullying.
Market Pioneers
UNIQA was a pioneer on the Polish market, introducing insurance against online hate. This initiative was met with enthusiasm and inspired other insurers to introduce similar products. As a result, more and more people have access to the necessary protection against cyberbullying.
UNIQA's actions, including launching the Against Cyberbullying Foundation and offering innovative insurance, aim not only to diagnose the problem of online hate, but above all to take concrete steps that will help reduce the level of hate speech online and improve the quality of life of social media users.
