At its latest conference, Apple finally unveiled the new model of its flagship product. The iPhone 15 has been equipped with a USB-C port for the first time. But that's not the end of the new features. What's worth knowing about the new smartphone?

USB-C is a response to the European Union directive

The new USB-C standard

The biggest change, which should particularly interest citizens of the European Union, is equipping the iPhone 15 with a USB-C port with USB 3.2 support. Apple is discontinuing Lightning-USB, which had until now been used to charge devices. The port change is tied to changes introduced by the European Union. USB-C has been declared the standard for all electronic devices that can appear on the community market after 2026.

iPhone 15 in three versions

At the "Wonderlust" conference, details were presented about all the new versions of Apple's device. Below we present the distinctive features of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iPhone 15

We already mentioned that every new Apple smartphone will use USB-C, and that's also the case with the standard version of the device. The standard version has been equipped with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XR OLED screen. A point of controversy may be the fact that the refresh rate is only 60 Hz. The smartphone market has accustomed us to far cheaper devices already being equipped with screens with 120 Hz refresh rates. Among the new features is an improved camera - 48 MP (quad-pixel) with OIS and an additional 12 MP telephoto unit. Apple also emphasizes significantly improved portrait photos and an enhanced night mode. The battery is meant to allow all-day use without the need to recharge.

iPhone 15 Plus

The iPhone 15 Plus is the larger version of the standard product. In addition to the screen, which measures 6.7 inches, it also stands out for longer operation without the need to recharge. During the conference, this model was not overly focused on, and there's no wonder, since it differs from the standard version practically only in dimensions.

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

Much more time was devoted to the most powerful version of the iPhone. The iPhone 15 Pro has received many new features compared to its predecessors; the first is a 6.1-inch screen with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz. The Pro Max received a screen with a 6.7-inch diagonal. It's worth noting that the bezels around the screen in the new iPhones are thinner than in the past. Inside the devices is a 3 nm A17 PRO chip, distinguished by very high performance. The device supports, among other things, ray-tracing technology. The most distinctive aesthetic element in the new smartphones is the titanium body and the action button, thanks to which you can, among other things, silence notifications or set a shortcut to a chosen app.

The A17 Pro processor and titanium body

The iPhone 15 Pro also stands out for its camera. It has been equipped with an improved 48 MP main unit supported by a 12 MP telephoto camera and a 12 MP Ultra Wide camera. The Pro Max model additionally has 5x optical zoom, while the Pro version can zoom in only 3x.

Now all that's left is to wait for reviews and first user impressions to find out whether Apple has maintained its position as a leader in the smartphone world.

UK prices start at £849 for the base 128 GB model, while the top Pro Max with 1 TB costs £1,599.
