Until recently, we were promised that the creative process would remain a human domain for a long time. Everything indicates that whoever said that will have a lot of explaining to do. Last week, AI started writing quite efficiently, and this week, it composed a new song for TikTok. There will be many more such news soon. It is estimated that within just one year, spending on this field will increase by… half! Does this mean we have a problem?

According to the research firm Research And Markets, the global artificial intelligence market will grow from $28.42 billion in 2019 to $40.74 billion in 2020. This means nearly 43% growth dynamics in just 12 months. Piotr Prajsnar, CEO of the Warsaw-based company Cloud Technologies, which uses AI algorithms to analyze large data sets left by internet users online, explains: - The global lockdown became the ignition point of the digital revolution. From that moment, we can speak of the emergence of a new wave of transformative technologies that focus on process automation. Above all, artificial intelligence technology, which can be seen as an antidote to stop the epidemic and its effects.

Just 2 years ago, Yann LeCun, Chief AI Scientist at Facebook and professor at NYU, during Viva Technology in Paris assured that it would take many years before artificial intelligence develops enough to threaten human creativity. Today, it seems we are closer to that state than ever before.

The last few weeks have been a real barrage when it comes to news describing new AI achievements. Startup Musiio has just used its artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze music to create the perfect hit for TikTok. Why there? The community of creators gathered around the Chinese platform is constantly looking for new songs that can be used in the videos they create.

So Musiio analyzed the top 120 tracks from the TikTok Trending playlist from May 18, 2020, and then ran the tracks through the AI system. The algorithms were tasked with identifying the musical elements that make a video go viral.

- Identifying the key features that make our set goal achievable using artificial intelligence is, admittedly, a relatively new tool, but perfectly known in the world of marketing. A good example is advertising carried out in an automated model, i.e., programmatic. This technology relies on an algorithm deciding to whom, where, and at what price a given ad should be displayed. And all this happens in a fraction of a second, based on data about internet user behavior. According to eMarketer, today, this form of selling ad space accounts for 84% of all ads sold online. - explains Piotr Prajsnar, CEO of Cloud Technologies.

If creating music seems like an easy task for algorithms to anyone, the next discovery might cause embarrassment, even among AI supporters. Just a few weeks ago, a robot powered by artificial intelligence called GPT-3 wrote an interesting essay for humans, saying that its species (robots) has no intention of annihilating the homo sapiens species.

In the essay it created, which is over 1,000 words long, a powerful AI-based language generator was used. The application tried to convince human readers that robots are harmless and come with peaceful intentions. The material published in The Guardian aroused great interest among readers worldwide, as for the first time a human could better understand the way a machine thinks.

- We are heading toward a situation where artificial intelligence will become much smarter than humans. I think the timeframe is less than five years. However, that does not mean that in five years everything will go to hell. It only means that the situation is becoming unstable or strange - said Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX in an interview with the New York Times.

Can we trust a futurologist and technological visionary like Musk? Yes and no. The eccentric millionaire is known for his fondness for theories that do not differ much from the plots of many science-fiction films and do not always find basis in reality. One thing is certain - we have a very interesting five years ahead of us.

Summary

The global artificial intelligence market is expected to grow from $28.42 billion in 2019 to $40.74 billion in 2020, representing nearly 43% growth. The lockdown accelerated automation, and examples such as the startup Musiio analyzing TikTok hits or the essay written by the GPT-3 robot show that AI is entering creative spheres. Elon Musk predicts that AI will become smarter than humans in less than five years.

Experts like Piotr Prajsnar from Cloud Technologies emphasize the role of algorithms in marketing, where programmatic already accounts for 84% of all ads sold online. This is a signal that the coming years may bring a revolution in creativity and business, although Musk's visions should be taken with a grain of salt.
