This year's ranking was created based on an analysis of survey research involving more than 830,000 employees from across Europe. Among European leaders, Poland has held a stable position for several years. On the list of 125 winners, eight companies are international organizations whose success is also driven by their Polish branches.

The ninth Polish winner is Sii Polska, which for the third year in a row qualified for the list of the 30 Best Large Workplaces in Europe, placing exactly in the middle of the pack this year.

As every year, companies could apply for the title of Best Workplace in Europe in 4 categories: 25 Best Multinational Workplaces, 30 Best Large Workplaces (employing 500 people or more), 50 Best Medium Workplaces (employing fewer than 500 people) and 20 Best Small Workplaces (fewer than 50 employees).

The best in Europe by category

In the multinational companies category, first place was taken for the third time by Salesforce from the IT sector. The winner among large companies was the Danish financial firm Sparekassen Kronjylland. The best workplace in the medium-sized companies category turned out to be the German manufacturing company PASCOE Naturmedizin, and in the small companies category – a representative of the Swedish IT sector, the company Regent.

9 companies from Poland on the Europe's Best Workplaces 2020 list

In Poland, the greatest interest is usually aroused by the list of the 25 Best Multinational Workplaces. This is largely because these are large and widely known companies, but also because of the ongoing presence of Polish branches of these firms among them. Thanks to very good results in the Polish edition of the Best Workplaces list (the national list was announced on April 16, 2020), the European leaders included: Cisco Systems, The Adecco Group, Daimler Mobility (present in Poland as Mercedes-Benz Financial Services), SAS Institute, Hilti, Johnson & Johnson (in Poland as Janssen Cilag), EY and SC Johnson.
There is also reason for satisfaction from Sii Polska, which for the third year in a row appears in the ranking of the 30 Best Large Workplaces in Europe. This success is all the more telling because in terms of employment size (more than 4,000 employees) Sii Polska essentially has no competition in its category.

Workplace ranking in Europe: how did Poland do?

With a total of nine representatives on the European list, Poland ranks at a level similar to countries such as Austria, Belgium or Switzerland, but we are still a huge distance away from the leaders: the United Kingdom (30 companies on the list), Germany (28 companies) or France and Sweden (22 companies each on the list).

What distinguishes this year's lineup from the lists of previous years is a clear sector shake-up in the ranking of the 25 Best Multinational Workplaces. The dynamic development of the IT industry, a competitive labor market and the need to attract new talent meant that technology companies consistently invested in working conditions and a unique work atmosphere, which translated into their results and position in the Great Place to Work® rankings. IT companies are, of course, still firmly at the top. In the list of the 25 Best Multinational Workplaces, however, they only reached 3rd place, behind manufacturing companies and, which is new this year, behind pharmaceutical companies. The latter account for as much as 28% of this list, the largest representation (twice as large as last year).

In the overall sector classification, the IT sector remains in first place (38%), and the next places on the podium go to companies providing professional services (20%) and companies operating in the financial sector (10%).
