Microsoft changes its approach: Windows 11 possible to install on older hardware

Until now, the company emphasized the presence of, among other things, the TPM 2.0 module, but the new rules will allow users of older devices to install the system, albeit with certain limitations. This move may encourage more people to try out the latest operating system.

What is changing?

  • Installation on older computers: Microsoft will allow manual installation of Windows 11 on devices that do not meet hardware requirements, such as the lack of a TPM 2.0 module. However, the system will not officially support such installations.
  • No system updates: Computers with Windows 11 that do not meet the requirements will not receive security updates or system patches, which may increase the risk for users.
  • Warning messages: During installation, users will be informed about possible problems resulting from the lack of compatibility of their hardware.
  • Watermark on the desktop: On computers that do not meet system requirements, a permanent watermark will appear on the desktop, reminding them of this fact. An additional message will also be visible in the system settings.
  • Easy return to Windows 10: Users dissatisfied with how Windows 11 runs on their hardware will be able to easily return to Windows 10.

Potential risks

The new rules open up the possibility of installing Windows 11 on older hardware, but they come with certain threats:

  • No technical support: Microsoft does not guarantee the correct operation of the system on unsupported devices.
