There are many reasons why customers may end their cooperation. For the most part, their decision is beyond your control and such a turn of events is nothing personal. But not always… Check out which mistakes to avoid!
But sometimes such a radical decision may be your fault. At this point you need to take a close look at yourself and honestly consider whether you could do something differently to convince them to stay. When you run an independent business or a small agency, keeping your current customers is far easier than acquiring new ones.
Here are the five most important mistakes to avoid so that customers do not end their cooperation with you.
1. You do not show them enough interest
Showing interest in the customer
Everyone wants to feel special, especially customers - as if they were the most important person in the world. Show them plenty of interest. How? Make them feel as if they were your only partners. That only they matter. Always consider their needs. If you do the exact opposite, they will feel unfulfilled and unworthy of your attention, and as a result they will start thinking about working with someone who will meet these basic requirements.
2. You are too busy or too slow to respond
A quick response to contact
With the above in mind, if you do not respond quickly to emails and other kinds of attempts to get in touch, the customer may wonder whether you really care. The argument that you have other customers will not help, and may even harm your mutual relationship. Customers want to feel as if they were a priority. It is worth remembering that satisfied customers - those who are happy to maintain cooperation - feel respected, special and more important than anyone else.
3. You no longer provide any value
Building the value of cooperation
Never let a customer feel that a given project within your cooperation is not developing. Always push yourself to improve your skills and knowledge. Go above and beyond to add extra value wherever possible. After all, you do not want your customer to think: "Why am I paying all this money when I can do it myself". You can improve your skills and offer an additional service. You can be proactive and regularly put forward suggestions to help the customer improve. Not only will you secure more work, but you will once again learn how indispensable you are.
4. You ignore the importance of rewarding loyalty
Appreciating customer loyalty
Your customer has been with you for several years and there is no sign that this will change. Do not ignore that. There are still customers who are genuine and loyal to you, so it is good for you to reciprocate. Never make a terrible mistake such as forgetting about loyalty. They simply deserve it. This does not mean that you have to make decisions that negatively affect your business. It is about occasional discounts. After all, it was with their help that you earned a great deal of money. Do not ignore loyalty, and they will respect you forever.
5. You focus too much on earning money
The customer is perfectly aware that they are hiring you for a fee. They also understand that this is your job, not unpaid activity. However, partners usually prefer to forget about money and want to feel that you love their business as much as they do. If you do not take care of that, ultimately your company will be perceived as one interested only in money.
If you avoid these five mistakes, your customer will be more inclined to continue the cooperation and there is little likelihood that they will go to the competition. Keep the following things in mind to make customers happy: meet expectations and be easily available; always put your customer first, do not forget to take part in regular face-to-face meetings to maintain good relations and be an excellent partner for doing business and providing services.
Be active and put forward suggestions that will help your customer improve the condition of their company, solve any problems, and also care about the positive outcome of the cooperation; remember how important it is to reward customer loyalty.
You should also constantly check your service with your customer and find ways to make it work better. Finally, do not forget that your customer is a person - be someone they like doing business with.
