Food loss and food waste is an issue that deserves our attention. Every year we waste millions of tonnes of food, while more than 800 million people worldwide face hunger. It may come as a shock that as much as one third of all food produced ends up in the bin. This is a huge waste of resources and a major burden on our planet, since food production involves greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Through a joint educational campaign, FOODSI and GLOVO want to highlight the importance of this problem.
International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste
29 September is an important date in the environmental calendar. It is a moment when we can take a closer look at our habits and think about how we can contribute to a better future for our planet. It is also a perfect opportunity to reflect on how we manage our resources.
The values and activities of Foodsi and Glovo
FOODSI and GLOVO share common values – both brands care about the future of our planet and are actively involved in education about reducing food waste. In addition, they take concrete action to rescue food. GLOVO has committed to the Glovo Access programme, which, in cooperation with non-governmental organisations, has already saved 300,000 meals that have reached people in need. That is more than 150,000 kg (over 330,000 lb) of food! For its part, FOODSI enables local businesses and users to rescue surplus products such as food, flowers and cosmetics. Thanks to the app, almost one million kilograms of food have already been saved.
The problem of food waste is often a logistical rather than a production issue. That is why GLOVO offers technological solutions that give organisations supporting people in need access to a free courier network. Cooperation with FOODSI also makes it possible to encourage reductions in food waste and promote environmentally friendly behaviour.
Joint initiative and future plans
The upcoming plans of both brands include joint educational communication on social media and promotion in cities in the form of out-of-home advertising. In October, another edition of the "less waste Foodsi" workshops will also take place, organised in cooperation with GLOVO.
GLOVO and FOODSI's joint campaign to reduce food waste
The joint campaign by GLOVO and FOODSI is a step in the right direction in the fight against food waste and in promoting sustainable eating habits. We encourage everyone to join this initiative and add their own contribution to building a better future for our planet.
Terms from the article
Production — the process of preparing and delivering creative material, such as a commercial, photo shoot, podcast, graphic, website or event. It covers pre-production, execution, post-production, quality control, approvals and delivery of the final files.
Why it matters: Whether an idea survives the journey to publication depends on how efficiently production runs: budget, schedule and quality are decided in preparation and execution, not in the concept.
When it is used: For every piece of material that requires execution: commercials, shoots, podcasts, events, websites.
What happens if it is skipped: Without reliable production, a brilliant script ends up as material that is delayed, over budget or endlessly reworked.
