OAuth 2.0

Open Authorization

A standard for delegating limited access to data or services without sharing the user's password. It uses tokens and permissions, for example, during login or integration with Google.

Why it matters

Allows an application to access an account without revealing the password: the user logs in with the source (e.g., Google), and the application receives only a token with limited scope, which can be revoked.

What's missing without it

Without delegated access, integrations would require sharing passwords — a single breach exposes the entire account, and revoking access would require changing passwords everywhere.

When it is used

When logging in via Google and similar services, and in any integration accessing user data from another service.

How we use it

User connects Google Analytics account to CMS without providing Google password.
