CDN

Content Delivery Network

A distributed network of cache servers delivering files closer to the user. Speeds up loading of images, CSS, JavaScript, audio, and video, and can also reduce load on the origin server.

Why it matters

Serves images and files from the server closest to the reader — the site loads faster nationwide and internationally, and the main server stays responsive during traffic spikes.

What's missing without it

Without CDN, every reader downloads media from a single server; during a viral article, the site slows down or crashes exactly when traffic is most valuable.

When it is used

Used for portals with large numbers of images and videos, and for audiences spread geographically. Applied in two areas: service performance and incident diagnosis and traffic analysis.

How we use it

CDN serves graphics and audio files generated by the CMS to users in different countries. Operational note: Cloudflare is in front of mediarun.com, so logs show Cloudflare IP addresses, not the actual visitors' IPs.
