Do you feel like reading, but have no book at hand? From now on, that's not a problem. In the space of Warsaw you will find Book Emergency Kits.
It sounds unbelievable, but it really works. All you have to do is open the box, take out a book, and take it with you. The Book Emergency Kit is the first initiative of its kind in Poland and probably in the world as well. It is an unconventional announcement of a great celebration of readers, namely Apostrof. International Literature Festival, which starts on May 14.
Many campaigns encourage reading, but not every one of them tells you what to do when a reading hunger strikes. So where can you find a book when you don't have one with you? In several dozen special boxes, placed in publicly accessible points of the city!
The goal of the initiative
The initiative aims to promote reading and gives people the opportunity to become acquainted with books by authors appearing at this year's Apostrof. Every day in the Book Emergency Kit with #tuczytam you can find a new title. Sudden needs will be satisfied by: “The Red-Haired Woman” (Wydawnictwo Literackie) by Orhan Pamuk, “Komeda. Osobiste życie jazzu” (Wydawnictwo Znak) by Magdalena Grzebałkowska, “Inni ludzie” (Wydawnictwo Literackie) by Dorota Masłowska, “Czerwony Pająk” (Wydawnictwo Muza) by Katarzyna Bonda, and “The Woman in the Window” (Wydawnictwo W.A.B.) by A. J. Finn. Some of them will appear in the boxes before their premiere.
The organizers of the Apostrof Festival believe that every book from the emergency kit will not only satisfy the hunger for reading, but will also spark curiosity, cement a passion for books, and above all create a new reader. That is precisely why, for the week preceding the festival, you will be able to reach for festival reads. It is an encouragement to get to know the guests of the 3rd edition of the festival, to fall in love with books, and at the same time a unique invitation to Apostrof. International Literature Festival.
