The popular sportswear company Nike has presented the new football kits for the Polish national team. There would be nothing unusual about it, were it not for the fact that the photo shoot of the newly created kits stirred mixed feelings among internet users.

A shoot that divides

The poses of the models, as well as the setting, triggered waves of negative comments, all because the white-and-red clothing in a certain way strikes at Poles and the stereotypes about them.

“Nike decided to tap into the Soviet Chic trend, present in fashion for several seasons thanks to brands such as Vetements, Gosha Rubchinskiy, or Balenciaga. While inspirations straight from the housing projects sell great in the West, in countries that did not experience the brutal post-war reality, in Poland it is still a very sensitive topic, because it highlights the biggest stereotypes about Poles.” – comments Agnieszka Kowalska, managing editor of sznyt.
