Facebook increases privacy protection capabilities

One of Facebook's main goals for the next decade is to build significantly stronger privacy protection for all users.

Encouraging people to review their privacy settings

Over the next few weeks, nearly 2 billion users around the world will see a message encouraging them to check their privacy settings. It will be a message that redirects to the privacy checkup tool, which was recently updated. This makes it even easier to determine who can see your posts and profile information, strengthen account security by enabling login alerts, and review the information you share with apps on Facebook.

As of today, the Off-Facebook Activity tool is available to users around the world. Other companies share information about your activity on their sites, and Facebook uses this information to display ads that are personalized individually for each user. Now it is possible to see a summary of that activity and, if you wish, remove it from your account.
Off-Facebook Activity sets a new level of transparency and control. We have been working on this for some time because we had to rebuild some of our systems to make it possible.

Logging in with Facebook lets you sign in to other apps and services, such as games or streaming platforms. Facebook is introducing Login Notifications. Facebook will notify you when you use the Facebook login feature to sign in to third-party apps. This gives us insight into how the account is being used and the ability to edit settings.

This is what we can learn from Mark Zuckerberg's latest report

Summary

Facebook is rolling out new tools aimed at increasing user privacy protection. In the coming weeks, around 2 billion people will receive messages encouraging them to review their settings, and the updated privacy checkup tool is meant to make it easier to control the visibility of posts and account security. The Off-Facebook Activity feature is also becoming globally available, allowing insight into data collected by other companies and enabling its deletion.

Additionally, Facebook is introducing notifications about logins to third-party apps, raising users' awareness of how their accounts are being used. This is a step toward building trust in an era of heightened control over personal data.
