Comarch has launched an internal pilot of AI agents in its flagship Comarch ERP Optima system, automating key accounting processes. The accompanying AI Hub platform is set to become the foundation of artificial intelligence across the Krakow-based company's entire ERP product portfolio.
This is one of the first such advanced cases in Poland of implementing agentic AI directly in enterprise-class software — with a real impact on the daily work of thousands of users.
From a system that records data to a system that acts
For decades, ERP systems served as digital archivists — recording transactions, organizing data, generating reports.
Today that philosophy is undergoing a fundamental change. Comarch, one of Europe's largest business software producers, has announced the launch of a pilot of agentic solutions in its flagship product — Comarch ERP Optima. It is a system used by hundreds of thousands of companies in Poland, mainly from the small and medium-sized enterprise sector.
The pilot is being carried out internally, which allows product teams to refine the solution before its broad market launch — planned for the coming months. In parallel, the company is expanding the AI Hub platform, designed as a central environment for creating, testing, and scaling AI agents across the entire Comarch ERP ecosystem.
"AI is ceasing to be an add-on — it is becoming the foundation of our products. Comarch ERP is evolving toward systems that not only record data but actively support the user and automate their work. Our goal is to build AI-driven solutions that quickly translate into real improvements in everyday business processes. " – Tomasz Stachlewski, Chief Technology Officer at Comarch.
Accounting agent: from invoice to posting without unnecessary clicks
The first agent created as part of the pilot focuses on one of the most time-consuming areas of office work — invoice processing and accounting processes. The solution takes responsibility for the entire document workflow: from automatic category assignment, through data verification, to support with the posting itself. It sounds like a detail — in practice, it eliminates hundreds of repetitive activities every day.
What sets this approach apart from other AI solutions available on the market? The agent does not operate in isolation from the company's context. It works within the data of a specific organization and the accounting rules in force there, which means its actions are immediately tailored to the specifics of a given enterprise.
It reduces the number of errors resulting from human inattention and — which is especially important for HR departments — significantly shortens the onboarding time for new employees. Automation becomes here not only an efficiency tool but also a kind of guide through the system.
"Our mission of building intelligent ERP systems is beginning to materialize in practice. We have shown that we can very quickly translate ideas into working solutions. AI cannot be created in isolation from the product — it must be built directly within product teams, close to domain knowledge. That is where real value for the user is created. "
– Tomasz Stachlewski, CTO at Comarch.
Philosophy of control: humans decide, AI executes
In the debate about artificial intelligence, the question of the boundary of system autonomy often returns. Comarch answers it unequivocally: the user remains the final decision-maker. Agents do not act by default — humans launch them, define the scope of automation, and set the level of system independence.
This approach, which can be described as human-in-the-loop, is increasingly recommended by regulators and experts as the standard for responsible AI deployment in business environments.
Such an architecture also has a practical dimension: companies implementing new technologies are rarely ready for full system autonomy from day one. The gradual takeover of control by AI, while maintaining human oversight, reduces operational risk and builds trust in new tools among employees.
AI Hub: a platform for the entire ERP ecosystem
The accounting agent is only the beginning. In parallel with the pilot, Comarch is intensively expanding the AI Hub platform — a central technological environment intended to enable the creation and deployment of further agents across all products in the Comarch ERP family. The platform acts as an agent factory: it standardizes their design process, provides tools for testing and integration, and will ultimately make it possible to scale intelligent automation across the company's entire portfolio.
This is a strategic move. Companies building business application ecosystems are increasingly investing in internal AI platforms that help avoid duplicating competencies and ensure consistency of technological standards. Comarch's approach — building AI directly within product teams, close to domain knowledge — is in line with best practices indicated by industry analysts.
The ERP software market in the era of generative AI — data and forecasts
Comarch's decision fits a clear trend that analysts are observing worldwide. According to the IDC Worldwide ERP Applications 2024 report published in October 2024, by 2027 more than 65% of new ERP system deployments will include built-in generative AI or agentic automation features.
This market is growing at a rate of about 11% annually, and one of the main growth drivers is precisely the automation of back-office processes.
Pilot of AI agents in Comarch ERP: what does it mean for accountants?
Meanwhile, McKinsey Global Institute's "The State of AI in 2024" report from June 2024 indicates that finance and accounting are among the three business function sectors where AI implementations deliver the fastest return on investment. The median time savings for finance department employees using AI tools is 30% of their weekly working time. In the context of Comarch's pilot, this figure takes on particular significance.
Poland is not lagging behind. According to data from the Polish Economic Institute from the report "Digital Transformation of Polish Enterprises 2024", published in March 2024, already 38% of Polish SMEs have declared readiness to implement AI solutions in operational processes within the next two years. This is an increase of more than 15 percentage points compared with the 2022 survey.
Products such as Comarch ERP Optima, deeply rooted in the Polish SME ecosystem, have a real chance to become the vehicle of this transformation.
Experts: AI agents are the new wave of automation
Among experts dealing with the digital transformation of Polish enterprises, Comarch's move is assessed as mature and well thought out.
The key difference between previous process automation (RPA) and AI agents lies in the ability to understand context and make decisions in situations that were not pre-programmed.
"Agentic AI is a qualitative leap compared with classic automation.RPA systems performed precisely defined steps — an AI agent can interpret intent, select the appropriate action, and adapt it to the specifics of a particular case. This changes the rules of the game for everyone implementing business software. "
– Piotr Śliwiński, digital transformation analyst, expert at the Polish Information Processing Society.
The technology community also draws attention to another aspect: the fact that Comarch builds AI directly within product teams, rather than as a separate module supplied from outside, has significant consequences for the quality and security of the solution.
Domain knowledge — in this case, familiarity with the specifics of Polish accounting regulations and the logic of ERP processes — is essential for the agent to operate correctly and predictably in real production environments.
What next? Plans for the coming months
The market launch of the accounting agent is planned for the coming months. That, however, is not the end of the company's ambitions.
Comarch has announced that building a broad range of agents covering various product areas — from sales, through logistics, to human resource management — is one of its strategic priorities for the coming years. The AI Hub platform is to be the infrastructure on which these ambitions will be realized.
For the Polish business software market, this is an important signal. Domestic ERP producers are entering a phase of intensive AI transformation, which will directly affect customer expectations toward all software vendors.
Companies that do not invest in intelligent automation within the next two to three years may find themselves under growing competitive pressure — both from Polish leaders such as Comarch and from global players.
How to prepare a company for implementing AI agents?
For business leaders watching Comarch's pilot with interest — and wondering how they themselves should approach the topic — here are a few key tips:
- Identify processes with a high degree of repeatability — invoice processing, document posting, and expense categorization are ideal starting points for agentic AI.
- Ensure the quality of input data — AI agents work only as well as the data they process. Before implementation, it is worth conducting a data quality audit in the ERP system.
- Start with the human-in-the-loop model — maintaining human oversight at the beginning builds trust in the system and makes it possible to detect errors before they become costly.
- Measure results from day one — the key indicators are: document processing time, the number of errors requiring correction, and new employee onboarding time.
- Plan for scaling — implementing AI in one area is an opportunity to build competencies that can then be extended to other business functions.
