Airlines fined for hidden hand luggage fees
The Spanish government has imposed a fine of €150 million on four low-cost airlines – Ryanair, EasyJet, Vueling and Volotea – for charging fees for hand luggage. The decision is being described as historic and is intended to put an end to unfair practices involving the concealment of the real cost of airline tickets.

The consumer protection association Facua and the media are praising this decision, stressing that it is a step towards greater fairness towards passengers. However, the Spanish association ALA, representing more than 60 carriers, criticises the decision, claiming it could be unfavourable for passengers who do not bring hand luggage, because it limits the option of paying only for the services they need.
The Spanish government's decision may force airlines to change their pricing policies and introduce more transparent rules on baggage carriage, which could affect the entire aviation industry in Europe.
