The Range Rover Velar sets a new standard for innovation and modern design. The Velar was designed to fill the "gap" between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport models and to deliver luxury and excellent craftsmanship with genuine off-road capability. It is a new kind of Range Rover intended for a new kind of customer.

Created entirely from scratch using a lightweight aluminium construction designed by Jaguar Land Rover, the Velar is the next chapter in the success story of the Range Rover family. The hallmarks of this model are visual minimalism and attention to every detail, which represent the next stage in the evolution of Range Rover's DNA and herald the next generation of models in this series.

The Velar features a balanced design, from its strong proportions to the continuity of the side lines converging at the rear. The wide wheelbase not only provides an elegant appearance but also a spacious interior.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, said: "The Velar is a true avant-garde in the Range Rover line-up. It introduces a new dimension in terms of the brand's modernity and elegance. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."

Large-diameter aluminium alloy wheels, especially the 22-inch models, pair beautifully with the superb silhouette and make the Velar look even better.

A key element of contemporary design is advanced technology: the Velar has the narrowest Matrix Laser-LED headlights of any Land Rover vehicle. Retractable door handles emphasise the simplicity of form and reduce the drag coefficient – it is just 0.32, making the new model the most aerodynamic vehicle in our company's history.

Look inside and you will see a perfectly designed interior – refined yet full of elegant simplicity. It has been designed with an unwavering belief in the power of minimalism, and switches have been reduced to the bare minimum in order to create an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity.

All the technology has been designed around the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which is the central element of the vehicle's interior. The system comprises two 10-inch HD touchscreens fully integrated into the surface and visible only once activated. These thin screens are harmonised with the cabin interior, giving it a modern look that complements the car's exterior appearance. Practical aspects go hand in hand with the design: the Velar can boast a 673-litre boot, the largest in its class.

The upholstery is made from a durable material that is an alternative to leather upholstery. The Dapple Grey material, enriched with suede-like fabric inserts in Ebony and Light Oyster, was developed in collaboration with Kvadrat, a leading European manufacturer of high-quality textiles.

The Velar owes its excellent driving characteristics and high ride comfort to its lightweight, rigid construction with aluminium components, double-wishbone front suspension and Integral Link rear suspension. The Velar also offers a top-class level of passive safety, which has been verified by the most demanding crash tests in the world.

A comprehensive system providing six airbags, advanced driver assistance systems including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with queue assist and an adaptive speed limiter are the latest safety technologies.

The Velar features an advanced All-Wheel Drive system, air suspension, class-leading ground clearance of 251 mm (213 mm with coil spring suspension), class-leading wading depth of 650 mm (600 mm with coil spring suspension), unrivalled traction-enhancing technologies including Terrain Response 2 and All Terrain Progress Control, as well as, following the example of other Range Rover models, world-class off-road capability.

Excellent efficiency and driving characteristics are the result of high-quality powertrains, both petrol and diesel, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF and four-wheel drive with the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system.

Four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines are available in 180 hp variants with CO2 emissions of 142 g/km in the combined cycle or 240 hp with high torque of 500 Nm. Also available is a new, advanced four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with 250 hp and acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. A new variant with a maximum output of 300 hp will also go on sale this year.

The V6 diesel combines 700 Nm of torque, which facilitates acceleration, with off-road capability at low emissions of 167 g/km in the combined cycle. The supercharged V6 petrol engine with 380 hp, on the other hand, is distinguished by exceptional efficiency and a unique sound, and provides acceleration from 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds before reaching a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The Velar and Velar R-Dynamic models are available in standard, S, SE and HSE versions. To give them a more refined look, customers can also choose the Black or Luxury package.

The most exclusive First Edition models will be available worldwide, but only during the first year of production. These are models with even more top-level specification, equipped with a 3.0 V6 petrol or diesel engine and a host of additional features, such as extended, fully leather interior trim with perforated Windsor leather upholstery in Nimbus or Ebony, a 1600 W Meridian Signature sound system, Matrix-Laser LED headlights and 22-inch diamond-turned spoke wheels.

The First Edition models will be the only ones available in Corris Grey, Silicon Silver and Flux Silver with a satin finish, hand-painted at Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations centre in the UK.

The Velar was designed and developed at Jaguar Land Rover's development centres in the UK, and its production will take place at the Solihull plant. The first examples will arrive at Polish showrooms in summer 2017.
